| lost root password I am using Suse 10.3
I was wanting to test recovering a lost root password on one system so I made a user account and thought I'd try to "recover" the user password.
I logged into the account with the password I had made, the account was fine.
I logged out of the user and back into root and "cleared" the user account password in the /etc/shadow file by removing everything between the 2 ':' , saved the file and then went back to attempt to log in the user account, I cannot get in by nothing or the old password.
I may set up a different machine to test on but if this is an accurate test, would I lose my install because of this?
Is it not the same for root and user?
Should I have changed something else?
just confused and looking.
Thanks
Kumado
