Hi everyone. I wonder if anyone had some problems with usb sticks in suse 10.2. I am experiencing strange problems. The sticks normaly get mounted without problem, but I can hardly copy somthing to them, I have to replug them a few times in order to make them work. The problem is the same on both my machines and all my sticks, so it has something to do with suse system, since the sticks work perfectly in windows xp. Any suggestion welcome.

This is an interesting question. I thought of asking people in this forum about installing a Linux operating system on USB module and run.

Is this possible?

I have downloaded the latest open SuSE 11.0. It is a DVD of 4.3GB. How on earth I can transfer it on to a USB module and run!

I would like to hear from the others.

I have some USB modules which are just 2GB.

This was an problem in the past with SUSE. Occasionally sticks mount as root rather than as your user. In this case you don't have permissions to mount but root has. It was very frustrating but often it can be helped by making sure you are logged in when you insert the stick. Unfortunately it does still mount as root even with these measures. As far as I am aware this is fixed in SUSE 10.3 and 11.

Doodle, you might have better luck getting help with your problem if you start a new thread. Make sure to use a descriptive title for the best chance of getting help.

Thanks bigtomrodney. Is there maybe any workaround this issue, because I really don't want to switch to suse 10.3, since I got everything else working. I believe this may be fixed in newer versions of suse. Changing to newer version may solve one problem but it also may bring three new ones you know what I mean. How have you guys solved this issue? Thanks once again.

The only way I found to avoid trouble was to plug it in after I logged in, but I forgot to mention that I didn't open it for a couple of seconds after it appeared. I noticed if I clicked on it straight away it would be assigned to root but if I waited a few seconds it would be fine.

I guess there's a point where it switches ownership and I was interrupting it.

Glad it's working. I'm just sorry you have to put up with it, I know it bugged me
