Well, i do have another problem.
i tried to install a game, and i can't find how to execute it via wine. i tried to use the terminal...
wine disc -s, and it brings up a message...

If you have the executable 'edmw_1.exe' actually installed, you should be able to start it from the terminal like this:
wine "/home/ghost202/.wine/drive_c/windows/edmw_1.exe"

This assumes your username is 'ghost202, change that to whatever it should be and if you have wine installed and your hidden wine folder in your home directory shows 'drive_c' and 'windows'. You may have to change these. If your executable is in a different folder (system32) then you need that in the path. The programs need to be installed under the '.wine' directory in your home directory. I think the double quotes are necessary, although single may work.

What command did you actually enter when you tried this?
Once you get it started with the correct path you can create a link on your desktop.

alright. i tried that, and it just displayed this...
preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00000000-60000000
in the terminal.
another problem, prior to executing the program, is being able to install it. when i try running the disc, it brings up the wine configuration window, which is cut off by the outer window it runs in.

I assume from the earlier posts that you did get wine installed and ran 'wincfg'?
I though you had the program installed and were trying to run it.
So now you have a program on a CD you want to install?

When you put the CD in the drive you should have a window open showing the contents of the CD. Look for an "install.exe" or "setup.exe" file (or whatever exe file there is) and click on it. A new window will open asking for an application to use to open it. Type "wine" in the box at the top and click "OK".

What wine configuration window?

The wine configuration, where you set up window size of the emulator, etc...

but, when i put the disc in, and go to run the setup.exe, it starts to spin the disc, but nothing happens. no window appears.

I'm not sure I understand your situation. Did you get wine installed? ran winecfg? Do you have a hidden file in your home directory named wine? I'm not sure if you are still trying to install wine or have it installed and are trying to install a program using wine??
