ok so now i have another problem lol. When i did that stuff, now my linux looks weird. My resolution can no longer go to 1440*900, just 1024*768, and i just installed the latest graphics drivers.

Also, the bottom left corner, where there is the start menu thing (sorry i dont know what it is called in linux) as well as the ummm, quick launch (again, windows terms lol) and other icons just dont show up. When i press the start menu or whatever it is called, the icons dont show up, except for a few of them.

Ok take it slow and easy <VBG>

Yast is your friend

Suse tends to be conservative as a distro and you won't get the cutting edge programs but it is very stable. There are other distros that do ride the bleeding edge. You should avoid KDE 4.0 for now. It is not entirely stable yet. I believe that 4.0 is optional with 11.0 and you can install 3.59 instead.

When you want to install some software check the repositories first before jumping in and compiling from source. Unless you know what you are doing it can really mess you up.

Thanks for your help.

I run 10.2 and run Windows XP in a virtual machine using VMware Server (free) . I develop Windoz apps, so must have WinXX installed for the development. This works great. You just need lots of memory.

You have not lived until you have booted Windows in a Linux window. I still get a kick out of it.

I keep windows striped down to just what I need for my work. This has proven very very stable. Also I avoid any internet from the Windoz VM and do all internet and gaming from Linux. Note the VM does not support 3D accel.

You game on linux? From what i know, most of the mainstream games that are on linux are from id software. I love id : )

But, it would be very difficult for me to use linux full time simply because i play lots of games. And even though most of the new games are pretty crappy, there are a few that like to play and that are not playable on linux... at least not playable from what i have read.

Quake 2 and quake 3 are still 2 of my favorite games, but i cant play those very often, not fun for me anymore unless i am playing with friends.

How effective is the Wine emulator, or WineX whatever it is called. I have read that it is very buggy and doesnt work very well.

Actually i just read more about wine and crossover. Can you or anyone else tell me how stable and effective those are? There are some guys that crossover supports that i like to play, and if the support is very good, then i would likely buy it. Also, for something like steam and team fortress 2, those two receive periodic updates, how would this effect crossover? Meaning, would steam and tf2 be updated along with the normal windows version?

Thanks, and i will try and ask this on a linux gaming forum as well.

Generally if a game runs in wine it often runs better then in Windows.

But I'm not a hard core gamer. There are a lot of nice games written for Linux. I love FooBillards It is the best pool game emulator I have ever seen. You can find it in the repositories under games. Doom/Hexen/Heretic has been ported. I have been getting to Eternal Lands of late. (I like RPG's) There is a Linux client. Again you can get it from the repositories.
