Both can be done in Yast, but first contact you ISP and see how things are to be configured. There is no difference in the configuration in Linux and Windows it is just done at different places.

To make sure smppd is runnin in Yast - System - System Service(Runlevel)

To be sure you are in the dialout group Yast - Security&Users - User Management ant be sure you are a member of the group.

It was more of a reminder, than anything else. As reed9 has already said, you seemed to get an attitude when someone didn't understand your problem. I may have gotten the wrong impression, so that is why I didn't dwell on it.

I would recommend that you use proper punctuation and grammar when posting for help. It is hard enough to wrap our heads around a person's problem, without first trying to decipher their posts. You are not sending a text message to your pals, so you need to make your posts as clear as possible.

no i don't have any attitude at all.......
anyways back to the problem ,as i said earlier ,i wanna know where and how to activate the smpppd service ,i looked for it in network services but didn't find it there .....
since u know what kind of connection i have and which dstro ,can u plz show me the steps about configuring my dsl account .....????

On my Suse 11.0 PC, I don't have smpppd installed by default. Maybe you need to install it too. Start YaST, and go to this section:

YaST-->Software-->Software Management

Look for and install smpppd. There is also a smpppd-web application that you may want to try. Then you may need to configure it to automatically start. You can do that in this section:

YaST-->System-->System Services (Runlevel)

Since I don't have smpppd installed, I can't give details. Next, set up the connection in this section:

YaST-->Network Devices-->DSL

Again, since I don't use this, I can't give details. If you have more questions on some details, please ask. Someone else may know the detailed info.

if the service is not there, go under Yast --> Software Management and search for smpppd and make sure you have it installed.
