On the other hand, I hate using YAST to install RPMs I download, so if you don't have the correct file for your version of linux it wont work too well.

To install an RPM from the command line type the following:
Code:
rpm -ivh <rpmname>
It will then tell you if any dependencies are missing.

If you're new to Linux, I'd suggest looking at SuSE Pro, Fedora or Mandriva before looking at a slightly more complicated distro such as Slackware. I'm downloading that now, but I'm not sure if it uses a GUI based installer yet.

Suse 9.2 sounds like a sure bet. I've taken a look on the specs of Slackware..... different beast entirely.

I'm starting a new thread on getting Suse 9.2

EDIT: Never mind, there's a sticky for that on the top of the page.

Which one did you get retired1af? If you downloaded the DVD image, how did you install it?

I want to get the larger image, but I lack a DVD Burner. Would 4 CD's work? IF I downloaded the mini package, could I still get all the cool stuff Suse 9.1 had as well as the essentials (like "Make", among other things)?

DOUBLE POST!: Never mind. You did get the DVD iso. how did you install it?

TRIPLE POST!!: Never mind, I think I'll just download the mini and download the rest of the packages.
