he's right. i read an article somewhere that there is no such thing as a linux virus, since the definition of a virus is that it can spread, which they cannot do from a linux box. you might want to keep rkhunter handy though, just in case.

Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

As of now people have not researched on making Linux viruses (one reason is being that its virtually impossible to make one, whatever). You need antiviruses for safety of those MS comps which "might" be linked to the same network as you. If thats not the case, don't waste your disk space by keeoing an Anti-Virus.

I can also give another practical reason.

i dual boot linux and winXP. My Xp partition is for games and nothing else. I never go online with it. I do go online with linux and do a lot of p2p downloading, for both linux ands XP. the files for XP are placed on a FAT Partition and later retrived from xp.

If these files contain viruses, it can infect windows when i boot into windows. therefore i always scan new files before placing it on my FAT partition.
