is there a way to find the ip address of a person on my aim buddy list? is there a program that i can just get to do this for me?

I dread to think why you need the ip address of someone, if you can't legitimately ask them for it....

google only gives me stuff for windows

is this against the rules for me to ask? if it is then i apologize 'cause i thought this wouldnt be a big deal

No, I doubt it is against any rules, but my point was this. If you need to for a legitimate reason, you can just ask the person. However, if you don't feel comfortable to ask the person, then you don't need it.
