heya ok so basically this is my main problem.
my computer cannot boot from dvd.
i have installed suse 9.2 and really want to install 10.0
i tried to update it but every time ihave tried it fails and i have to reformatt the drive.
that is my biggest problem. can any1 help me?

another problem is.
i am planning to install suse 9.2 on my laptop.
its quite old: compaq armarda.
the problem is it has win NT already istalled. and i cannot boot from CD or access the boot menu. it has interchangeble floppy and cd drive.
I tried using a windows boot floppy but it couldnt find the cd drive because it obviously wasnt in. is there a way to scan for the cd drive after it is loaded.
if you understand what i mean.

I installed Suse 9.3 from a disk in a book and had problems. I called Novell and the operator told me to go to my nearest best buy store and purchase the six disks for Suse 10, which I did. I had my hard drive reformatted and my 'computer guy' partitioned a bare bones windows XP within my " C " drive and provided me with driver disks for my printer and scanner.
At home I installed Suse Linux 10 from the disks.
I am very happy that I have the disks because I had a problem recently. I tried to fix it in the repair mode and failed. However the repair mode has an option to erase the Suse OS. So I erased everything except my XP partition and reinstalled Suse 10 and it works just fine now.
Although I am very new to Linux; having the disks is worth the money I spent.

I want to suggest one way that I did and I predict now personal information will lost after upgrade for new version of suse. It like this, when you partitoning hdd for linux information, make 3 partition for linux. One is of course Swap, second is '/' and third one is '/home'. When you did like this, next time you want to install newer suse, just reformatt partition with '/'. '/home' partition wont change and you still get all your data stored in it.
