msn video doesnīt work with Linux?

the msn web site offers several videos, like news and other. everytime i try to watch one it says i donīt have Media player on my system. can i get around this? how?

Also, www.movietickets.com have movie trailers, that i like to be able to see but with firefox, it says that i donīt have asp installed, with opera shows only a white square in the middle of the screen and thatīs it. Can i fix this? how? thanks

Yes, you need a plugin. it is called mplayerplug-in

Itīs not working. I installed, but nothing happen. Itīs still sayng i need ie. can you help?

Its possible with your mplayerplug-in, that you need an extension, like "greasemonkey", coupled with a script like "pklaunch".

Another (less desireable) option is install IE6 on Linux, running under wine.

That ie6 for Linux works for flash9 internet sites, but not for sites that need windows media player installed.

You could also try another Linux browser, such as Konqueror, or Opera, to see if they work any better.

Some sites (particularly those run by microsoft or companies with a close relationship to them), will deliberately check which browser you are running, and block every browser except for IE. Sometimes this is not because the browser is not able to display the page, it's just politics, or they don't want to spend the time checking if their site works on another browser. If you are using konqueror, you can get it to pretend it is IE6 in the tools menu by choosing the IE user agent. I think there is a plugin for firefox to achieve the same thing.
