I recommend you take a look at Jem Matzan's excellent article "Hacking openSUSE 10.2" which is found at:- http://www.softwareinreview.com/cms/content/view/60/
You do not say which motherboard you are using. If it is a 965 then you have the dreaded Jmicron IDE controller onboard which may account for some of your problems. Look closely at the section called "CD not found" error before installation.
openSUSE 10.2 is a superb operating system, the best by far from the SUSE stable so please persevere. It will all come right in the end.
Just one final point for you to note. In openSUSE 10.2 you may have a slight problem adding your printer. Bugzilla has bug number 229231 listed for yast2 hanging in the printer database, usually at 4%/40%.
This bug has now been fixed by means of package/patch:-
yast2-printer-2.14.17-6
Go to http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...rce/suse/i586/
and download the above rpm.
At the prompt do not save to disk but "Open with Zen" and enter the root password.
Install the update/patch with zen installer.
Then go into YaST2, click on Hardware and select Printer, followed by "Add". It is probably best to delete whatever is shown as the default and then add your current printer. Follow the prompts, do a test print and that should do the trick.
Happy 10.2'ing! |
