    Check your modem with Hardwarre compatibility list of Suse see below link-->

    Did you tried installing your modem using Yast?. If no success post the output of command
    #lspci

    date; cd~; unzip; touch;
    strip; finger; mount; gasp;

    This sounds somewhat familiar ...

    As silly as this may sound, laptop or desktop, does your mother board already have a modem installed on it?

    If yes, disconnect the modem you're now trying to use and see what happens when you engage Yast.

    Hope this helps.

    OK, this may not help, but you have a software modem. Software modems are notorious for not working with Linux.
    Some software modems do work but are usually difficult to configure.
    You may need to get a hardware modem. This may work with your laptop - Zonet 56K V.92 PCMCIA Hardware Modem ZFM5600-CF
