Whr does the Last Login Details get dumped ?
Hi All,
I'm just tryin to check all the logins to my SUSE machine which is shared on a LAN/Internet. whenever I login to the konsole, i see that last login details from IP's which i dont knw.
Last login: Wed Aug 15 20:13:25 2007 from 0232-235058.xxx.ccc
Is there any log dump for getting the server access details ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Try running the commands last and lastb.

Check /var/log folder. you will find relevant info in auth.log and user.log.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Last looks in /var/log/wtmp and lastb in /var/log/btmp. Last shows you who logged in over a certain period and lastb shows a list of bad login attempts. If you aren't sure about things e.g. location of log files etc, always read the manual of the commands you were given because they contain that info.
