Mozilla Firefox dependancy problem on openSUSE 10.2

I've just installed openSUSE 10.2 with no problems, except for an internet issue which was (obviously, seeing as I'm posting) fixed. However a new problem has arisen, when I tried to update my version of Mozilla Firefox to 2.0.0.6. Failing the 1-click-install on software.opensuse.org (it just downloaded a text file), I downloaded the RPM and opened it. The Software Updater opened up and recognised the update (why didn't it find updates for it, and all my other programs, beforehand?) and upon trying to install it, I got this error -

    Unresolved dependencies:
Updating MozillaFirefox-2.0-30.i586[System packages] to MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.6-2.1.i586[Local packages]
Marking MozillaFirefox-2.0-30.i586[20070816-212955] as uninstallable due to conflicts over MozillaFirebird from MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.6-2.1.i586[Local packages]
There are no installable providers of mozilla-nspr >= 4.6.7 for MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.6-2.1.i586[Local packages]
MozillaFirefox-2.0-30.i586[System packages] replaced by MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.6-2.1.i586[Local packages]
    MozillaFirefox-translations-2.0-30.i586[System packages] dependend on MozillaFirefox
I fixed this by uninstalling MozillaFirefox-translations-2.0-30.i586, but now it gives me more of the same when I try to update -

    Unresolved dependencies:
Updating MozillaFirefox-2.0-30.i586[System packages] to MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.6-2.1.i586[Local packages]
Marking MozillaFirefox-2.0-30.i586[20070816-212955] as uninstallable due to conflicts over MozillaFirebird from MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.6-2.1.i586[Local packages]
There are no installable providers of mozilla-nss >= 3.11.7 for MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.6-2.1.i586[Local packages]
MozillaFirefox-2.0-30.i586[System packages] replaced by MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.6-2.1.i586[Local packages]
I noted the MozillaFirebird, and discovered that it is part of the Firefox package, logically meaning that I'd need to uninstall Firefox to install the new version. I have some questions, which hopefully shouldn't be too difficult to answer -

    1. Will I need to uninstall Firefox to install the new version? If not, how would I go about updating it?
    2. If this is the case, will it keep all my plugins, bookmarks and options?
    3. If I uninstall it, will it remove the icon in the Start menu (or whatever it's called in SUSE), and if I reinstall it, will it replace the icon?
    4. As above, why doesn't the Software Updater program recognise updates to my programs without downloading the RPM of the app I want to update?

Here are some details that may be handy, from My Computer -

    OS: Linux 2.6.18.2-34-default i686
    System: openSUSE 10.2 (i586)
    KDE: 3.5.5 "release 45"

As you probably guessed, I am new to Linux and will need my hand held throughout the process. Thanks a lot in advance for the replies!

    Hey,
1.No need to uninstall Firefox to install the new version. Just try the below command for upgrading the new version of any software/package (FireFox)
    #rpm -Uvh package name
    2. It might not clear your all history of plugins, bookmarks and options., if you successfully upgrade your Firefox.
    3. When you uninstall a package it removes everything regarding that package. Still depends on unistall options you give.
    4. Not sure what is the problem with Software Updater. But i will suggest you to either download the remaining dependencies and install them manually and then try Software Updater. Or download the appropriate newer version of firefox and install it using the above command. Or I would suggest you some third party package manager softwares like Yum or Apt.

The latest version of Firefox uses an updated version of nspr. If you download and install this first - you can then update firefox.

Smart is at the moment the best installer/updater for Suse.

SMART Package Manager - SUSE Wiki

It updated me to the latest without a problem.
