vlc-0.8.6c i586 rpm suse 10.1 cannot show avi video

Hallo!I have installed suse 10.1 i586 in my computer. Also,I have tried to install vlc-0.8.6c i586 rpm on my linux.Unfortunately, the vlc is only able to play the audio of an avi movie file:it cannot show the video images. In addition,I would like for the vlc to play flv files:both audio and video. Please assist me by telling me the appropriate software that I can install to rectify this situation, where I can download it and its dependencies. Thanks in advance.

Try installing flash, from macromedia and also install all the codecs you can find in your repos.

I've tried running mythtv through a VNC connection and I couldn't get but just the first few frames of a video to play. The sound keeps coming but the video stops. It is probably a limitation of VNC itself... something like the frame refresh rate or a network bottleneck (if using a wireless connection).
