Exclamation installing atheros drivers in suse 10.1

I'm 100% new to linux, and I've just installed suse 10.1 on my laptop. I'm trying to install drivers for my wifi card but the instructions I'm following aren't working for me. The instructions i'm using are here : SUSE 10.1 and Atheros-based WiFi Cards « Linux and Open Source Blog

When I type "make" I get the message "no targets specified and no makefile found. stop." When I type "# make install" i get the message "*** no rule to make target 'install'. stop." and nothing else happens. Can someone help me out? Please remember im 100% new to linux.

Are you actually typing the pound sign #

That is the prompt not part of the command.

The # prompt indicates that you should be root.

Are you typing su then the root password before trying to make?

The instructions seem to be missing a step. The download is a compressed files you need to expand it first.

no I'm not typing the "#" character, and yes I have typed "su" and then the root password. I also decompressed the file before I put it on a cd, I'll read that link, thanks.

*edit : after reading the post you linked to, I tried again and it worked. Not sure what I was doing wrong but thanks for the help.

well now I have a new issue, while the drivers have been correctly installed and I've setup the card, I dont know how to actually connect to a network. A program called kNetworkManager keeps popping up messages saying networks have been detected, but I cant find anywhere that allows me to actually connect to these detected networks.
