    Installing Thunderbird

Hi... This is a really easy question [just bin a while since I used Linux an jus trying to get back into it!] - I have just downloaded the thunderbird source and extracted the program files to a directory.

Now, my question is how do I:

    1. Create a shortcut to the application on the desktop
    2. Add "thunderbird" as a command to my konsole / terminal windows?

And where should I put the directory "thunderbird", currently, it resides in:

/home/thunderbird - which I know is wrong, but can't remember where the correct place is to put installed program directories!

    Thanks.

For things like thunderbird, /opt or /usr/local are used. If you need the latest Firefox, Seamonkey, Thunderbird etc but don't want to spend time tracking updates from mozilla.org, you need to add the mozilla repository for the openSUSE release you are using to your YAST sources.
