Suse 10.1 Nvidia Install Problems
I looked in the search but souldnt find my problem any where. ( i know how vets get pissed if newbies like me dont use the search fist!)
ok so i installed my Nvidia Drives as found on the Nvidia.com site. any ways i got to the point where i edited the displaymanager & xorg.conf but when i'm told to run the
SUSEconfig comand i get this
linux-kmon:/ # SUSEconfig
bash: SUSEconfig: command not found
linux-kmon:/ #
What am i Doing wrong.
I tried passing it up and run the next comand where you remove a Symbolix ling and make a new one. and i end up with this
linux-kmon:/ # rm /var/X11R6/bin/X
rm: cannot remove `/var/X11R6/bin/X': No such file or directory
linux-kmon:/ #
no remeber i am a SUPER GREEN LINUX NEWBIE!!!! so word you answers in a way that a 5 year old could understand. i'm leanring but slowly! so hang with me!
thanks guys/girls!
one note! in the directions the guy doing it has the comand line that shows
linux-lab:~ $
where mine shows as
linux-kmon:/ #
does this mean any thing or it just different styles?

What instruction are you following??
You should not have to edit the xorg.conf file by hand. At least not normally
Follow the instructions on the NVIDIA site for Suse, there is a link on the download page.
If you have a GO chip set be sure you download and follow the "hard method" (it really is not difficult). If you do, you must install the kernel-source and the gcc compiler (use Yast), they are not installed by default!

xgl
Cool Solutions: Xgl on SUSE 10.1 for Gnome and KDE with NVidia Graphics Cards
You also might want to check out Beryl

I honestly don't know which is better at this point. To me it is eye candy, and though cool it just eats up resource I'd rather use else where.
