Help, I've Stuffed my Suse 10.1 Installation

I was running Suse 10.1 under VMware and was trying to install hplip to print to a HP printer.

During the installation I got an error about some missing packages. I installed a package for net-snmp-devel. It then said it couldn't find some python packages so I entered the command:

    su -c "yast --install python-devel python-xml"

expecting it to install the missing packages from an rpm file I downloaded. However, I'd left a dvd image of Suse 10.2 in the drive and it began to install lots of packages. I aborted the process but now the system won't boot in a graphical mode, it will only boot in console mode.

The network won't start because when I enter service network start I get an error saying it can't find libdbus-1.so.

I can't start yast from the command line because it says that the ncurses front end is installed but not working. It says I need to install yast2-ncurses to start the YaST2 text interface mode.

I have a 10.2 dvd image and no networking or graphics. Is there any way I can recover my system and preserve my data and applications?

    Thanks

    Shaun

If your data is on a seperate partition, you could install the suse 10.2 ....
if it is a shared partion , you can do the same just don't repartition or format...

as for rolling back ... ugg...
does the 10.1 cd have a 'repair' option???

Just decided to update to 10.2. Just booted from the DVD and seen the update option so I'm now just backing up my VMware instance just in case it goes all horribly wrong.

    Thanks for the advice.
