Crossover Problems
I went to linux with hope and dream of never needing to put money in Bills pocket ever again. how ever running windows based apps is proveing to be more of a problem then i thought it would be. i downloaded the Demo verson of Crossover Linux and got it up and running but when i try to install any program EX AutoDesk Inveter/ AutoCAD 06 - 08 and when i run EVEonline. i get the "can not run in Windows 98" i looked on the crossover website and it says that at the very least it should run? what the heck?

Certain apps work very well in Wine and others not at all. Mostly they run somewhere in between. I had very limited success with Crossover wine, even with the apps it is supposed to run pretty good.
It's frustrating that there are apps that there isn't a good Linux alternative for. I've faced this problem for years with QuickBooks. A few other possibilities for you... Perhaps look into running Windows inside a virtual machine such as Xen or VMWare. Another option might be to run the program inside of Windows running on top of Linux using Win4Lin.
Goof Luck.

If I may suggest, STOP running Windoz apps period! Where you can and what you can, convert the files (word processsor, spreadsheets, etc) to ASCII then run them using Linux software - they'll work just fine after a few initial tweeks; the formating of spreadsheet programs will have to be redone, minor things (in most cases) like that.
As for "Crossover Linux" - never heard of it but by it's name I can pretty well guess what it's supposed to do but the question here is, did you really need it? I suspect the answer is no.
As for Auto Cad, it's my understanding that it's a good piece of CAD software BUT there are CAD sofrwares which come with many Linux packages including Suse. Poke around a bit and you'll find it but note, there are some programs, some sofrwares which are so complex, written only for Windoze use that the converting them over to Linux is just not worth the time and effort, so be prepared to run them in Windoze. You'lve already paid the Windoze Tax and the program(s) do work while using Windoze, so get your money's worth out of them
But where and when practical to do so, start using Linux and avoid using Windoze. While Linux is not without it's faults, it's just so much better than Windoze, that once you get used to using Linux you'll probably wonder why you stayed with Windoze as long as you did.
Hope this helps.

I recommend VMware Server it is a free download. I also recommend adding as much memory as you can. It will run smoother.

It is a virtual machine that allows you to run a copy of Windows in a Linux window. This eleminates dual booting and you can do things like copy and paste between OS's I develop Windows programs on XP running under Suse. I have even installed a DOS VM. If your programs will run under Win98, I'd recommend that because it requires less memory then XP.

Just for the record, I've been running Photoshop and other Windows apps under X-over for months now without a glitch. For a while I kept looking for possible problems, little things that just didn't work right in PS, but it works just like it does on any Windows machine.
I get the feeling that X-over is not well liked among Linux users in general, maybe because it isn't free? From what I can gether, it was developed by the Wine team, and it works, and I don't have to support Bill Gates any more. It's all good.
