Gimp
I edited an image the other day and was so impressed with it that I've kept it but because it's got my gamers name on it, I was thinking about if I left the game I was in, the writing would still be on there, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to access the layers so I can make a copy of the picture and remove the writing off one of the copies?
That's the image and I want to take the white writing off it.

It depends. What file type did you save it under? If you only saved it as a .jpg, then you can't remove it by layers. you have to use the clone tool and manually edit it.
I'll see what I can do to get your name off it.

It is jpg format, can't I change it back to its original format and then edit it?

Sorry, I've been kinda busy and forgot to get back with you. ^^;;
And the answer is no. When you save something as a JPG, it flattens the image.(Getting rid of layers) Because of this, editing the text isn't possible. It has to be removed manually.
This is my best attempt at removing your name. It may be a little different, but it's kind of hard to get rid of text without knowing what was behind it originally... ^^;;

Look at it this way, you've now learned a leason that virtually EVERY gimpshot/photoshop user has learned personally: keep the origonal files, make saves in xcf(Gimp file) formats and always double check you've done so. XD;; You think this is bad? I once photographed a whole trip, edited all the photo's only to realize that there was something wrong with the way the Photoshop was saving them and they could no longer be read by any program. (There was a problem with the way photoshop installed.) O_O;; I didn't make any backups... that's how I experienced this situation, now I ALWAYS keep the originals.
