    Suse nto a Laptop

    Hello All
I have a laptop running Windows XP, unfortunately the CD/DVD ROM does not work and I have not been able to get a replacement, it does have a floppy drive. I also have a USB CD ROM

I want to load Suse onto it (i am happy to lose the windows XP). Any suggestions how I can do it. If I format the hard disk the laptop will not recognize the CD ROM.
    Thanks
    Brian

Put the Installation on a Pendrive USB Stick.
    Boot that.

(your motherboard must support USB Booting)

    Google for Pendrive Linux

    Hope that helps

You will need to change the BIOS so that it will boot from a USB device. If your laptop is an older model, this may not be possible.

DVD drives for laptops are fairly generic. You should be able to get a cheap one from an online retailer. You will have to swap the mounting rack from the old one to the new one.

But well you can also boot from a Floppy Drive that boots from the USB.

What laptop do you have, If it a modern type try cclonline.com - PC Pro Online Retailer of the Year 2006 for a replacement at a very reasonable price, I had same problem and replaced mine with a dvd rewriter for under £30
