    Intel 3945 and KNetworkManager

    Hi

    I have a DELL Inspiron 6400 with a Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card and my wireless internet use WPA2 AES-CCMP.
With openSUSE 10.3 I can't connect to internet at all. It stops at 28%, using KNetworkManager, I can't even connect to my neighbours wireless which is unprotected. If I change in YaST that I don't want to use the NetworkManager and instead use the traditional ifup method then I get to install something called KInternet (i think it's called that). Anyway KInternet can't use wpa2 but it can connect to my neighbours internet at least.
I guess this means that there is something wrong with the KNetworkManager. So what I understand I have two choices... either manually edit some config files or use another program to connect to internet.
I only used linux for some months and i have never used openSUSE before so i would really appriciate some help in this.

    Thanks. //andbia

I have an acer aspire 5613awlmi which has the same wifi chipset. openSUSE 10.3, however, recognised it during install, and it worked off the bat (straight away for me) so its a bit odd that it hasnt worked for you. I do know that there are two packages in the yast repository (ive forgotten what theyre called...the package names have the number 3945 in them so search for that number to list the packages). Make sure theyre installed, if not, install reboot and see if wireless works.

i have 3 packages in total if i go into and search for 3945 in software management, all those are installed:

    ipw3945d
    ipw3945-kmp-default
    iwl3945-ucode

i read this somewhere else though:

"Improved support for Intel Wireless Link WiFi drivers

Two drivers are available in openSUSE 10.3, the traditional ipw3945 which is installed by default and the new iwlwifi driver as an alternative offer. If you want to remove the traditional one, you can do that in YaST ->"Software" -> "Software Management" and take it out. After this, iwlwifi will take its place."

i removed ipw3945d and tested and now i can connect to my neighbours wireless network that is unprotected. but my network doesn't still work, which means that it's something with wpa2 that don't work i guess.

Yeah, if its connecting to other networks then its definitely working as it should, just check your own routers network and security settings.
