    Partitioning

    Hi all!
I have installed SUSE 10.3 on my PC. I already have windows XP and now I find that I have too much space available for my XP and I want to move that space over to my /home partition in SUSE 10.3 Any idea how I can modify the disc sizes without messing up any of both my 2 systems?

    All help appreciated!
    Many thanks!

I personally recommend using the Parted Magic LiveCD:

    Parted Magic

It's a small download and quick burn to disk, and it's really easy to use because it's a clone of Partition Magic. Their website has good instructions for using it, but basically what you'll be doing is shrinking the XP partition, then expanding the /home partition using the free space you created in the prior step.

It's probably wise to defrag your Windows partition(s) before making any changes, too.

Thanks for the tip! I checked out the website and Parted Magic LiveCD looks exactly like what I need. I will try it later this afternoon when at home again and get back to you with more info.

P.S. Should I backup everything, or is the procedure bullet proof?

It is always a good idea to backup your data. Your data should not be harmed during the procedure but my advice is to backup your files, just in case.

Yeah, a good way to backup your system would be to use an imaging tool such as PartImage, Clonezilla, Ghost4Linux, etc.

Doing so will allow you to restore your partition(s)s in just a few minutes if things should go awry.
