    Firefox update?

OK, I have downloaded the latest Firefox, BUT there is no installer, just the directory of how it should be AFTER the installation, I can run it, but can NOT work out how to UPDATE 2.0.0.2 to 2.0.0.8, I have it set to check for updates and download them and install by itself, yet it does NOT, so how the heck do I update it?

PS: I want to be told click by click, not "just go here then there"

If you subscribe to the Suse repository it will auto-update

I use smart but the normal updater should have it. I got it auto-magically the other day. I use smart and ksmartTray

I believe this is the base URL

    Index of /repositories/mozilla/SUSE_Linux_10.1

note change 10.1 to your version

You have downloaded the static binary set from Mozilla. This is not the best way to update the application. What you need to do is
    • Start YaST from the main menu
    • Go into Software Repositories[8]Choose Add new Repository
    • Select HTTP
    • Add for server name download.opensuse.org
    • Add for Directory repositories/mozilla/SUSE_Linux_10.1, replacing 10.1 with your version.[8]Click finish
. Your normal system updates should now include the latest Firefox everytime it is released. I actually had 2.0.0.8 before the public announcement.

ah ha, cool thanks, also I have found a guide but it removes the old version completely, and replaces it with the latest, is that safe or is it better to use what you just said?

Things may be a little different, depending on which version of Suse you have. Here is what to do with v10.2

In YaST, select Software --> Installation Source

    I have three sources listed:
    cd:///?devices=/dev/hda
    http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...10.2/repo/oss/
    http://download.opensuse.org/distrib.../repo/non-oss/

The two http ones were disabled until I clicked on them, and then clicked on edit.

You can add another repository, here is a list for v10.3
Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE

The Packman and Guru ones are good sites to add. Be careful, packages from different repos can conflict with each other. It is best to chose one repository and use it exclusively.

You can always drop back to an earlier version.
