    Playing MP3

    I am working with Suse 10.2: cat /etc/SuSE-release
    openSUSE 10.2 (i586)
    VERSION = 10.2

    Some time ago Amarok suddenly refused to play any MP3 files.

    I had been working already for a few hours removing and installing packages with smart.

    With your list (the actual versions are sometimes a bit newer in Suse 10.2 and a few files could not be found), I finally had Amarok working again.

    The lists that work in Suse 10.2 are.

    Common libraries: rpm -q w32codec-all boost libdvdcss2 libfame libXvMCW speex
    w32codec-all-20071007-0.pm.1
    boost-1.33.1-42
    package libdvdcss2 is not installed
    libfame-0.9.1-0.pm.8
    package libXvMCW is not installed
    speex-1.1.99.1-13

    Kaffeine: rpm -q kaffeine
    kaffeine-0.8.2-35

    Xine: rpm -q libxine1 libxine1-aa libxine1-devel libxine1-dxr3 libxine1-gnome-vfs libxine1-sdl libxine1-stk xine-ui xine-mad mad
    libxine1-1.1.8-0.pm.2
    libxine1-aa-1.1.8-0.pm.2
    libxine1-devel-1.1.8-0.pm.2
    libxine1-dxr3-1.1.8-0.pm.2
    libxine1-gnome-vfs-1.1.8-0.pm.2
    libxine1-sdl-1.1.8-0.pm.2
    package libxine1-stk is not installed
    xine-ui-0.99.5cvs-20071014.pm.3
    package xine-mad is not installed
    mad-0.15.1b-1.pm.3

    xmms: rpm -q xmms-lib
    xmms-lib-1.2.10-200.pm.4

    Additional: rpm -q lame libdvdcss2 transcode
    lame-3.97-1
    package libdvdcss2 is not installed
    transcode-1.0.4-0.pm.0

    Thanks very much.

    Regards,

    James Wayne

    Install XMMS, the media player that suports MP3 Playback:

    Code:
    yum install xmms
    ... given that you have internet access. Otherwise download the binary if its available on the site or build it from source.
