Reboot to different OS once from Restart
SuSE linux 10.0 and also earlier versions of Fedora/Redhat used to offer a drop down menu on the "Restart" button at the login screen of the X server. The options on the button showed the contents of the available boot choices taken straight from GRUB's menu.lst file.
This feature had disappeared by the time of the release of SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop edition and subsequently it was no longer featured on SuSE 10.2 either. I really miss the option and just wish I could find the bit of code that used to call it. I'm no expert so can anyone point me to where it might have gone and suggest how I could restore that feature. I run several multipartitioned PCs with various distros and a couple of windows versions installed for testing purposes and I always found the ability to just select a non-default choice for a one-off reboot was very useful; much better than having to sit poised over the arrow keys waiting to catch the GRUB menu as it goes staright to the default choice.
If no one can help then please can someone with influence - bring this feature back!Last edited by dave_cass; 10-28-2007 at 04:03 PM. Reason: Spelling/grammar

Restart options are back in SuSE 10.3 !
I've just installed open SuSE10.3 and I'm delighted to find that the restart dropdown options have been restored. It's great! Once again a one off reboot to any other installed OS is offered without having to watch the PC through the reboot and catch the GRUB menu after the POST of the BIOS.
Thank you to the SuSE community ... It's also looking like a very polished distro so far although still not blindingly fast when using YAST but better than previously.
Nice one SuSE!
