Problems with 10.3 Install
base install from 10.1-10.3 keeping my old /home and /vm partitions
The install went well until the X startup it failed because of no core pointing device. ie it could not find a mouse. Even though it worked fine during the install. sax2 flat refused to run because of this error. Tried editing the xorg.conf though it looked alright (it identified the make of the mouse etc) it had a new section at the bottom having to do with core devices which is new to me. Even tried to use my old xorg.conf which was backed up on /home
Note on hardware I'm using a Logitech wireless through a KVM switch. Also tried it direct but not that hard.
So without a working GUI I needed to do something I have a 10.2 disk which I had never installed. Installed and runs without problems. I still had problems setting up Samba and had to manually make settings for the firewall. (why can't they get this right???). I have installed all updates (about a gig's worth) and the NVIDIA drivers. Still could not install the newest version of Skype, but the older 1.3x version I used in 10.1 seems to work. Did not install gnome since I never used it. Most of my KDE settings came through untouched. Sound worked right off as soon as I initiated it unlike 10.1 which I had to fight.
I am disappointed in 10.3 but so far happy with 10.2. This install fixed some problems that I had introduced in 10.1 kde sometime back and that makes it worth while. This post is more of a ***** then a question since I don't intend to install 10.3 in the foreseeable future. But comments are welcome.
