No X after kernel update
Hello all. Today I've updated my kernel and after that I cannot boot into GUI.
When I boot I get text message on terminal that X server is not configured. Then if I issue
I get the following error messagesCode:$ startx
These messages run in infinite loop and I even cant stop them with CTRL+C.Code:Warning! MD5DIR is not set: you probably called this script outside SuSEconfig...! Using MD5DIR="/var/adm/SuSEconfig/md5"... No changes for /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers No changes for /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config
I have ATI RADEON onboard chip and dont run any fancy effects (beryl... whatever). I've been searching the Net all the day long and didnt find any solution.
I've tried to change the Driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to "radeon", "ati", "vesa" with no avail. I even deleted xorg.conf. But I'm still receiving this annoying errors. PLZ help.

If you have actual ati drivers installed, you'll need to reinstall them after upgrading the kernel.

No no no. You dont understand. X refuses to start at all! Even if I put "vesa" in Driver line or even if I delete xorg.conf at all.

Here's a bug report with that same error message:

Wonder if your issue could be Xgl related?oz

The only other thing I can think of is, did you look to see if there were any clues in the Xorg.log, or other log files?

Here we go. Didnt find anything suspicious in /var/boot/messages, Xorg.0.log but in .xsession-errors in root's home directory and in user's one.
See attachments.

Anyway. What is the command to reconfigure X server or what is the name for metapackage so I can just reinstall it?

I've never run opensuse so I'm not familiar with its commands, but here's an opensuse HowTo that might help in getting the xserver reconfigured:
SDB:X Server Configuration with SaX2 (8.1 or Higher - openSUSE)oz
