External Hard Drive
I have an External usb harddrive that has linux suse 10.1 gnome on it but i want to reformat it. I dont have any grub to boot it on my laptop so i was wondering is there a way to reformat the external harddrive without actually booting up linux. BTW it wont show up under the my computer when attached.

If you don't have an OS on a harddrive to boot up, use a liveCD Linux distro like Backtrack.
Attach the drive and boot up Backtrack from the CD - if the external drive is not detected, it's likely dead. If it is seen, you can format/wipe it. Check out the shred command.
