installing glibc 2.4 on suse 10.0

I am using suse linux 10.0 and need to install glibc 2.4 in order to properly install a new release of ginac and run a program.

I have glibc-2.3.5 right now. Can somebody tell me whether I can simply download a .rpm file with glibc 2.4, or is it more complicated than that? I looked around a bit and had the feeling that changing version of glibc is not something one should try unless they are well informed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I suggest you install using YAST, you may need to add some of the software repositories see link Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE. For version 10.0 I found it works best if you select the repository which takes you to the server and copy the url, then past the url into the server and directory on server field and delete un-needed parts of the url
eg for Index of /suse/10.0 put packman.iu-bremen.de in server field and /suse/10.0/ in directory on server field.
