    Exclamation NIC not configured!!!!

*Sigh.... I have been using Ubuntu linux on my laptop for some time now and have had no problems. Just recently however I have been trying to use SuSE duel boot with Windows xp pro on my desktop pc. The problem is this, I installed a new NIC and I can't configure the stupid thing on SuSE. I configured it just fine on Windows, and I've tried to install the drivers on SuSE, but to use the drivers you must have the package build-essential... well at least make, that is. I go about installing the tarball through the terminal, all goes well untill I use the command "make install" It says "make" is not a command. I know it has to do with build-essential on ubuntu and imagine it is the same on SuSE, but I can't find an offline installer (I can't go through the terminal and intstall it using apt-get... no internet). SuSE never worked before installing the new nic and neither did windows, now windows is fine and suse.... well its frustrating me. I desperately need help- I've tried everything I can think of...and well I'm stumped.... any help would be highly appreciated.

Have you tried to install make from the installation CD/DVD? Open YaST and then Software Management (I have Suse 10.2, so yours may be different). Then search for make.

You may first need to configure Suse to use the DVD as an installation source. Go to that section in YaST to add it.

    Fixed it

I ended up figuring it out - the solution was so simple I wanted to slam my head against the wall... now I'm just trying to figure out why on the applications browser it says the wrong name... where it should say Application Browser (on "computer name")... How do you change that name????
