    Freevo and tv.xml

    Hello all,

I am looking for a dirty workaround for the tv.xml base for use with freevo... I have no interest in using the scheduler or anything else (for right now anyway) that freevo is offering other than the DVR function of it. But, if I am understanding things correctly, for whatever reason, this damn database file is required so that the tuner knows what frequencies to use?

Why is it that non-recording apps (such as tvtime) dont need such things?

Cant I just put up a dummy xml file with the frequencies in it so that I can even do something as simple as the 'watch tv' function?!? And if so, where do I get such an animal?!? yer standard north american coax cable list for ntsc would do the trick nicely.

I cant believe that I am the only freak on the planet interested in such activities, yet google comes up with nothing useful (or maybe 15 hours of screwing with this has turned me into a babbling idiot as far as any worthy search engine is concerned)...

I could care less if it is telling me incorrect information about the actual show that is on a given channel... I just need it to work!

    Thanks ahead of time...

quick sys info: Suse 10.3, Freevo version 1.7.4-1 586

let me know if more info is needed, i cant think anymore today....

That was actually how this started. I installed MythTV first, but did it against the warnings and pulled it straight from repostitories rather than manually rpm'ing it. Now I have the system so confused from trying to fix it that I was forced to bail, and find some other way. I gave up on myth when it wouldnt properly talk to the card. It will see it thru v4l, but wont talk to it. I get some 'cannot open card' error, among others (not to mention for some reason the mouse doesnt work properly with its interface). You can imagine that this got very frustrating, really quick.

Either way, they both want a working implementation of xmltv, and I got way closer to a functioning system with freevo, probably because it is so much simpler in design. MythTV is nice and all, but not worth all of the hassle because I dont need all the bells and whistles.

Im also at that point in my linux knowledge where I know only a little more than those which are classed as 'dangerous' but I figure as long as things like tvtime are still working, I havent screwed up too bad.

    Any other ideas?
