How to install Firefox 2.0 on Suse Linux?

Get A Suse linux with firefox 1.5 and it installed at /usr/lib/firefox. And there is a link firefox.sh at /usr/bin to launch firefox.

Then Download firefox 2.0 to /root/Desktop and extract the files to /root/Desktop/firefox (extract here automatically)

Then I want to install firefox 2.0 to replace existing 1.5. How to do this?

I can run 2.0 from extract files. But I want to replace 1.5 with 2.0.

    Help please.

The easiest way is to get it from a repository.

Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE

Point Yast to the above then up grade via Software Administration

Hi, in response to the question posted by kentzhou, what commands do we used on the terminal to replace the outdated firefox?

I'm also new to linux and i want to learn more from linux like the way we install, replace update using the command system which is different from windows which make it very interesting.

    Thanks

    Thanks.
I downloaded MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.11-1.4.i586.rpm from the repository and install the rpm file, but I get Dependency Resolution Failed error.

Should be very simple, why so hard to do it?

If you want help with your problem you need to provide as much detail as you can and include all error messages. What is the dependency error? Also it probably would be simpler to add the Suse mozilla repos to your yast sources and then search for firefox in YAST and then upgrade or install it.

To add the mozilla source to YAST you need to do
    Code:
YAST -> Software Management -> Installation Source
Choose http as the protocol, the url for the server is download.opensuse.org and the directory of the server would be repositories/mozilla/SUSE_Linux_10.0.
Change 10.0 to whatever version of Suse you are using.

I also tried what you said:
From YaST-->Software-->Install Source, to add repositories/mozilla/SUSE_Linux_10.0.

But after adding these info, how to install firefox 2.0 using this way? I also downloaded the file mizilla.repo, it is a small file. how to use this file?

    Thanks.

I really don't understand why you want to do this the hard way.

Add the repository to Yast then install via Yast. It will resolve these problems.

If you added the install source

    Yast-Software-Software Administration

type mozilla check off what you want to install or update.

You do not need the mozilla.repo file. If the repo was setup using the instructions I mentioned, you need to run YAST -> Software Management and search for Firefox. You then need to select it for upgrade if it shows that there is a newer version available.
