    SuSE versus Ubuntu...
Which is better, easier, and more efficient for a casual user looking to just do homework, play some Roms and DOS games, and doesn't need to worry much about windows compatibility because he knows how to dual boot xp?

I do have some things I want working. Namely Skype, IM, various emulators... What's the installation packages available like for OpenSuSE? Is it as diverse as Ubuntu?

Give me some advice, hell, tell me more than I'm asking. I really want to know the difference.

The main difference is Suse is rpm-based, uses zypper(I think) for the package manager.
Ubuntu is debian-based and uses apt-get for the package manager.
For what you are asking, either one of them should work.
Recommending one of them over the other is like saying vanilla ice cream is better than chocolate.
Everyone will have there own opinion.
If you are not satisfied with the first one you try, try the other.
