    suse 10.3 goes all white

    hey i got a serious problem...when i turned my computer today suse was all white, there was nothing i could do, and the RAM in ubuntu went up to the roof...instead of being 40% like always its in 70% so everything is really slow. the last thing i did in suse was intall Americas Army maybe that did something. plz help me

    This sounds like some kind of hardware problem. But I can't guess what it might be. Tell us your exact hardware and software configuration.

    i dont know...can i type somethjing in the terminal that can show me that info?

    What hardware are you running ie make model etc.

    What OS's have you installed we know about Suse and Ubuntu do you have Windows.

    You could test the hard drive with a program from your disk drive manufacturer to do a low level scan.

    It could be a memory problem so you might run a memory checking program

    You just have not given anyone enough info to help.

    ok lets c, ill tell u all i know. i got 40GB of memory total, 512MB ram. i dont have windows and untill yesterday suse worked just fine and ubuntu works perfectly.

    ok most likely a bad disk sector.

    There is a commercial utility that is great at fixing this kind of things but it is not free

    Spinrite

    GRC*|*SpinRite 5.0 to 6.0**

    if anything will fix a damaged disk Spinrite will

    or you might try to download a utility from the manufacturers of your disk. This might be a problem if you don't know the brand and/or the model.

    You could try reinstalling but if it is a damaged sector that will not work.

    ok thanx ill try that, but one more thing i checked and when i go to where the buttons are i can see the mouse changes to an hand and when i turn off the comp, the white desapearse and i can c the background for a sec
