Angry open suse 10.3 and the Sb audigy SE

First off i am a noob, however i have tried an alsaconf, removed and reinstalled the correct drivers, fiddled with the mixer, and still no sound!!!!!!! the snd server doesn't crash, it just does nothing. Every time i restart it and 'test sound' there is a moment of Hdd access, and no sound! yast says that 'CA-0106' is the driver, and installed as snd card #0. I also have a crappy onboard AC97 can that be getting in the way? some one please help i wanna play Quake 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps i also did a 'sudo /etc/init.d/alsasound start' and that didn't help!

I believe that with the SB cards you must be a member of the audio group.

ie you do not have rights to the sound driver unless you are a member of the right group.

I think it is the audio group someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Running in root is not a good idea :o... you can do some real damage as root user! It also compromises system security - particularly if you have net access.

Try adding user to audio group as suggested by previous poster.
