lost X after replacing libstdc++.so.5 with libstdc++.so.6
Hi!
I am running Suse 9.3 (with very limited knowledge of sys administration, unfortunately). To install a particular third-party program, I needed to have libstdc++.so.6, and so via Yast I have installed it (downgrading some of the packages as Yast suggested along the way to ensure compatibility).
However, now I lost my X (and KDE) :weep: (it complains about not having libstdc++.so.5).
I tried ln -s to the newer library, but no such luck - new set of missing dependencies and packages appeared.
What should I do? Can I add libstdc++.so.5 without removing newer libraries? If yes, how can I do that?
Also, what kind of advice do you have regarding back-ups? I am interested in some sort of system restore where it restores installed all packages and users. Is it possible with Suse? And now that my GUI is gone I need something that can be set via prompt without much tweaking if possible.
I would very appreciate any advice and pointers, thank you!!!
