    -bash: /usr/bin/top: Input/output error

    Hi All,

    Here is my issue,

    My Linux Version is,

    SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (x86_64) - Kernel \r (\l).

    I get the following errors,

    mylinux:~ # top
    -bash: /usr/bin/top: Input/output error

    mylinux:~ # mysql
    ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (111)

    mylinux:~ # ls
    /bin/ls: reading directory .: Input/output error

    mylinux:~ # fsck
    fsck 1.38 (30-Jun-2005)
    fsck.reiserfs: Input/output error
    fsck.reiserfs /dev/sda2 failed (status 0x. Run manually!

    Nothing going fine for me now, please help

    Hmm... do your partitions come up if you type a 'df -h' ?

    One question: How long has this OS been installed and running?

    If it's "for a while", then there is likely a fairly large system issue - look at your /var/log/messages file for syslog messages. You might see HDD errors, for example.

    If this is a new install, then it could simply be a config issue or corrupted installation. And again check the /var/log/messages file.

    -bash: /bin/df: Input/output error

    Hi,

    This Server has been running for a quite long time but this issue seems to be just now.

    I have checked the Log messages and could not find anything for that particular day.
