    SAMBA guest access

. I am currently trying to move our windows fileserver boxes over to SLES 10. The installations went smoothly and all functionality works.

The one thing I am trying to accomplish that I need some help on is about one server's samba share.

I need to allow access without the linux box prompting for a uname/passwd.

The reason for this is a program that nearly all users use that requires access to a single database file. There is no need for any security on this database. No critical or private info kept on this dbase.

When the program attempts to access to database file, it simply tells you it is unavailable. Even if I " log in" to the share first.

I have found where to allow "guest" access" I thought that fixed it for me, but it turns out, for reasons I don't understand, that 4 desktop computers out of 9 can now freely access and write to the share... the other 5 are still prompted for a username and password.

any help on how to remove this access security would be greatly appreciated.

my apologies. I was trying to say I had already rebooted them before posting this message.... I was responding to you in a hurry as I passed my office.

So, no, the rebooting made no difference.

pretty much nothing really. They are all Dell E521's. XP pro. They are configured the same. The same software suites and all.

are those other machines in the same workgroup or domain as the ones that can access the shares?

    problem solved

changed "security" in smb.conf from ADS

which i'm not sure why security was set to ADS to begin with.

After changing security to "share" it is now accessible from all stations.

    thanks for you help
