You don't need antivirus unless you wish to scan files you may be sharing with Windows PCs. Viruses for Linux exist really only in proof of concept form, and realistically don't exist in the wild. I think if you asked everyone on the forum you'd find that only peole on Windows networks run it out of courtesy.

I agree with bigtomrodney. Check this Short Security Guide for more info.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I've been using Linux for 7 years and have never used an antivirus program. So far, I feel no need to even consider it.
That said, I feel that each user needs to make up his/her own mind about installing AV software.oz
