Making changes to squid.conf with SUSE 9.3

I was setting up a SUSE 9.3 box and was trying to configure squid.

I made changes to squid.conf and am unable to save the file, I also tried to rename the original file and was given an access is denied to do that.

I am new to the Linux world, I did give myself full access, is there something else I can do to edit this file? Is there something I can change to have full access to the ETC Folder?

I setup the box so I have the root password and full access, so if there is something that needs to be configured I can do it.

You must become root (ie log on as) to edit files that are owned only by root.

Just having the same password is not enough. It just means your user account and roots account have the same password it does not give you anymore permissions. Also you should only run as root to do configurations do to security concerns.
