A Couple Of Questions
Hello,
I'm thinking of installing linux because i'm sick of vista. But first off all i'm testing it on my old PC. I have chosen open suse just because it sounded the best (Apart from ubuntu which kept having booting problems). First of all i went on the website. Live CD Gnome version. The file size was 698mb and when Safari had finished downloading it was 407mb. Is this right?
2)With ubuntu you have to burn the .Iso in a zip folder is suse the same?
3)Ubuntu had several folders and apps when it downloaded Suse only has 3, 2 folders and a big blue suse icon, is this right?
I use infrarecorder if you needed to know.
Thanks Guys, I hope to be using susesoon

I am not getting it. You dont have to unzip .iso image. Select 'Burn Image to Disk' option in your CD Burner package. Procedure is same for .iso images of all Linux distributions.2)With ubuntu you have to burn the .Iso in a zip folder is suse the same?It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

When i downloaded ubuntu it came in a zip file and i burned that as an .iso.
I have tried running it, thats probably why it isn't working.

There could be two reasons:
* Installer is not configuring your Graphics Card. Try Ubuntu Alternate Installation CD. It has text based installer and works well in all machines. Never had any problem with it.
* Less RAM. Performance will not satisfactory with 256MB or less RAM.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Can i jsutuse the text based installer with the cd i've already got? It gives me the option

Try that but Alternate Installation Cd's text installer works much better than regular LiveCD's installer.

OK, i have downloaded sues the 600 odd mb file.
I'm burning the only file it downloaded as an image using infra recorder and a cd rw.
My laptop automaticaly boots from CD's first.
Fingers Crossed This Time.
