    Welcome to the forums, thirunavukkarasu!

I don't watch TV on my computer so I don't know all the details about what you need to do, but you can find some TV applications here:

    Television | Linux App Finder

The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux. (Official site of the table)

Hopefully someone will respond soon with more details.

For a regular analog (SD) TV tuner, there are several. TVTime and XAWTV are two good ones.

For a digital (HD) tuner, it is not as easy. Mplayer, Xine and VLC can be used. They are best run through the terminal, adding options to get it to display correctly. First you need to scan for channels using the one of the dvb-scan utilities, and then create a channels.conf file for those programs to read.

MythTV may be better for digital TV.

Kaffeine is already set up for DVB tv if it sees your hardware. You then just run the channel search from the menu.
    Works pretty well.

I don't see it. It only says that it can show streaming dvb material as a client. There is no place to scan for channels

If you have a compatible tv card Kaffeine will "see it" and you get a "DVB" entry on the menubar. This menu gives you the various options to configure, including a channel scan.
It's the easiest to configure that I've tried.

    I do, and it doesn't.

This is on Mythbuntu with a new install of Kaffeine.

Edit: I just stopped the MythTV backend, and now it "sees" it.

There is also kdetv which is installed by default in the KDE version of openSUSE.

    Read the Kaffeine help file.
Kdetv is only analogue and you have to do a lot of reconfiguring to get sound.
