Dual monitor
Hello all,
I am running suse 10.3 on a dell xps 210
I have installed (as in connected to the slots in the pc) an ATI radeon VT 1300P CleDMS
I am not sure if the drivers are correct in my hard-drive.
Can you help me configure so that I can use two monitors side by side.
Thanks

Have you installed the ATI drivers from the ati.com site?

Thanks for the quick reply
I have downloaded the following onto my desktop:
ati-driver-installer-8.443.1-x86.x86_64.run
I followed the instructions as best I could.
I opened the terminal and entered the following:
kevin@linux-kybd:~> su
Password:
linux-kybd:/home/kevin # ati-driver-installer-7-12-x86.x86_64.run
bash: ati-driver-installer-7-12-x86.x86_64.run: command not found
linux-kybd:/home/kevin #
My problem, as I see it, is the instruction that says:
To install the ATI Proprietary Linux driver using the Automatic option, follow these steps:
1. Launch the Terminal Application/Window and navigate to the ATI Proprietary Linux driver download.
I have no idea how to 'navigate to the ATI Driver' using the terminal application window.
If any one can help me, or point me towards a web site that explains the terminal and how it works I should be very grateful.
BTW. As some one who installed Linux after (stupidly) buying vista I find the terminal to be the most perplexing and frustrating. So many things are blindingly obvious to the initiated and complete mystery to me.

Ok you are in your home directory but the file is in the Desktop. SO you need to Change Directories
The command is (not surprisingly the same as in DOS) cd
type cd Desktop
Note that Linux unlike Windows and DOS is case sensitive
Now you should be in your Desktop directory and your prompt should read
linux-kybd:/home/kevin/Desktop #
If you want to learn here is a good place to start
LinuxCommand.org: Learn the Linux command line. Write shell scripts.
and here is an on going course with online help and everything
start [LBo]
Now run the program as per instructions

Dear All,
I have now downloaded the drivers.
The situation is that I have two monitors that work as dual when using the windows operating system. When I use suse 10.3 monitor B acts as a clone for monitor A.
I have searched for tutorials but I am still a little confused. I think I have to configure some stuff, but I have never had to do this before.
Can any one help me to configure so that I can use two monitors side by side and have them act as a one monitor? Or point me to a tutorial on the shell that would give me some background.
Kevin
