RAM upgrade issue on SUSE 9.3
Hi
In my office I installed Suse Linux 9.3 in an Intel based PC. Afterthat I upgraded RAM to 1GB DDR 333MHz RAM from 512MB DDR 266MHz. But when I booted to Linux, it starts giving problems like X server not working, and on each boot, problems are different. Sometimes i'm not getting the command prompt also. I checked the memory test option in the boot loader menu and it was giving some error. If I put two 512MB DDR 266MHz, all are working fine. If somebody has an idea of what could be the reason please tell me.
Regards

Hi Vijeesht,
You may want to check the system board documentation for the type & size memory modules dimms it will support.
OR AND
Check the system bios - firmware level this may need upgrading.
I hope this is of help.

Windows seems less sensitive to memory errors in my experience but make no mistake it will jump up and bite you when you least expect it. If Memter86 is reporting DIMM errors then you have them and I would suggest getting rid of that RAM if you can. Memory errors allow you to work on but produce random errors that you may not immediately associate with RAM.
