    wireless internet connection

That explanation did not work for me when I tried it. I'm so distraught. I bought this stupid wireless usb thingy because it said it was supposed to work with linux. Well. It's not. Somehow ifplugd is managing my ethernet and wlan0 and i can't make it stop so I can use ifup/ifdown.

I'm pretty much giving up on it. I'll just have to stay near the router w/ ethernet cord attached.

I've tried to get help from the suse forum, nothing worked. This, didn't work. I've been playing w/ settings all damn night. Forget it.

I do not see your reply but got an email.

Hello, I do not see your reply here on the forum but I got an email saying someone replied w/ Goofybritt, what distro and what version are you using? Tell me more...

So here is what I can give you. If you need more information, I will need help doing so. I am fairly new to linux as a whole, so I have limited knowledge of commands, and the like. :/

    Thank you for listening.

    Brittany

    notebook:/sbin # ifup wlan0
Network interface is managed from NetworkManager
NetworkManager will be advised to set up wlan0
but it cannot be assured from here.

    notebook:/sbin # ifplugd wlan0
Sorry, there is already an instance of ifplugd for eth0 running.

    notebook:/sbin # ifdown eth0
Network interface is managed from NetworkManager
NetworkManager cannot be advised to take down an interface.
    Set up another interface instead.

**changed to traditional method w/ ifup in Network Settings in yast**

    notebook:/sbin # ifup wlan0
Network interface is managed from NetworkManager
NetworkManager will be advised to set up wlan0
but it cannot be assured from here. ((HOW?? I CHANGED IT??)

    SO I then started knetworkmanager.

    notebook:/sbin # knetworkmanager

All the while I used KNM to select 'connect to (my) network' under Wireless Networks.
Always get Connection Failure: Could not connect to the network "my network". OK.

Also now I cannot connect to the device eth0 (integrated lan) - which I've had no probs connecting to except for NOW that I'm messing around w/ settings.

    Activating Wireless Network Connection
