    You probably can, but it's better to see if you can get a newer version of the software you want first. What programs, specifically, are you looking for?

    I tend to agree with techieMoe ... look for later versions first. You should try the community repositories as well ... YAST -> Community Repositories add relevant repositories and then go into YAST -> Software Management and search for the software you want.
    Only start installing the old version after that ...
