    Upgrading motherboard

    I got a new motherboard and installed it when i try doing a repair with opensuse 10.3 dvd i get an error linuxrc crashed press enter to continue and after that i keep getting some udev error i was wondering do i first need to install the mother board drivers in window's for it to work i can't seem to load any distro on this mother board not even ubuntu

    No, the drivers for Windows shouldn't have any impact on how it works under Linux.

    I'm guessing that it's a hardware issue of some kind and you'll have to experiment with the various kernel boot options available to you through the F-keys right before the installation CD begins to boot up.

    For Ubuntu, you can see this page for more info.

    You could also check to make sure the new mobo has the latest BIOS installed just in case there's been any kind of fixes released recently.

    ok thanx will try updating my bios the wierd thing is 10.2 loads upto where you choose your desktop gnome or kde then crashes mandriva spring 2007 also just crashes.live cd ubuntu i get stuck on username authentification failed

    You might have bad memory. Linux tends to use all the memory it can get its hands on where as Windows slowly builds up from the bottom. So if the problem is in high memory it will show up much quicker in Linux.

    Run the memory test on the install disk

    I would check the hard drive and make sure they are install properly.

    i put my old mother board back everything works without a hitch so i think that other board was faulty
