As long as your site is standards compliant and doesn't require and custom application to run it should work fine. A good test is if it works in Firefox on Windows, it will (or should) work on Firefox in Linux. The real trick is some backwards companies code their services specifically for Internet Explorer so you need to rule that out.

I have found that Abbey gives a warning unless you use a particular version of Internet Explorer. I have never had any problems using Firefox on Linux or Windows though.

I think generally they just complain if it's not a browser that they don't support.

I second this ... at one point my online bank did not support other browsers ... it does now ... but at the time I got konqueror to pretend it was IE (in settings -> browser identification).

If it were me, and my bank was one of those MSIE only institutions, I'd seriously change banks before I'd start using Internet Explorer for banking.

I use openSUSE 10.3. I've never had issues with online banking (using Firefox, Opera and Konqueror), but I think thats because the banks I use, don't use any technologies that are browser specific. I know in the past some banks did not support anything other than IE, but I think this is becoming unusual.

Like daark.child I use openSuse 10.3 and internet banking with firefox. I use mainly 3 different banks and have had no problem with any.
I think they now appreciate that their customers can make choices.
